Antigens were prepared from Entamoeba histolytica HK-9, axenic cultivation, and they were used to test human sera. The indirect haemagglutination test was positive in all of 67 cases with liver abscess, in 99% of 360 cases of amoebic dysentery, in 60% of 178 asymptomatic carriers and in only 3 (<1%) of 601 uninfected controls. The results with complement fixation were similar, namely, 100%, 91%, 23% and 0% respectively. The antibody responses to amoebic antigens are reviewed with 23 references.
