In serving the needs of private health consumers, dietitians make an important contribution by helping counteract quackery and faddism that have lately become rampant in the field of health and nutrition. Factors involved in entering private practice in dietetics are discussed. These include sources of patients, getting a practice started, costs of initiating a practice, office visits and charges, assessment forms and teaching tools, first steps and office atmosphere, personal roles, and future recommendations.
