One-kidney post-salt hypertensive rats with nephrosclerosis have decreased single-nephron (SN) arteriolar resistances and a predominance of glomerular over arteriolar renal damage. The dynamic response of kidneys which were exposed to chronic hypertension, yet still have normal renal function were studied. Weanling Holtzman rats with 2 kidneys were fed 8% NaCl diet for 4 mo. followed by 0.6% NaCl diet for another 4 mo. At this time, 8 salt-sensitive hypertensive and 9 salt-resistant normotensive rats, AP hematoxylin and eosin which was probably the result of a genetically reduced number of nephrons, minimal nephrosclerosis and hypertension.
