A draft of an abortion law from the Netherlands is discussed. An abortion would have to be performed by physicians either in hospitals or abortion clinics. An interval of 5 days must be observed between the time a woman consults a physician and the actual operation. The privacy of the woman must be respected. Follow-up visits for check-ups must be made available. The fetus must not be capable of independent life at the time of the abortion. This law is intended to protect unborn human life, insure the physical and psychological well-being of the mother, and assure that a responsible decision will be made. The law appears to be vague in many aspects, however, and should be rewritten.
