Case of triple hybridism in Callithrix (Callitrichidae. Primates

The coupling between the .male. hybrid (.male. C. jacchus .times. .female. C. geoffroyi) and the .female. double hybrid .male. (.male. C. jacchus .times. .female. C. geoffroyi) .times. .female. C. penicillata penicillata produced, in 4 pregnancies, 9 triple hybrid young, all of which developed well. Almost all of them reached adulthood. The phenotype of this hybrid line is described. Brief comments on their developmental sequence are included as well as behavioral considerations. There is also a short discussion on the genetic aspects correlated with the taxonomic situation of the forms of this taxon. The importance of experimental studies on hybrid individuals is emphasized, especially as pertains to obtaining new primate models for scientific research.
