A Welsh gilt which had successfully farrowed six live piglets failed to become pregnant again, although the cervix and uterine arteries appeared normal on examination. A laparotomy performed 108 days after parturition revealed a partial duplication of the right uterine horn with a macerated fetus of full-term size in the ovarian extremity. Difficulties in diagnosis of a retained fetus, and its causes are discussed.
