The system has a 2-fold advantage: with 1 implant the same animal in a conscious state can be used repeatedly for similar observations; and the lids prevent drying, which avoids entry of foreign bodies and therefore prevents infection. This device can be recovered and reused indefinitely as the implant is not secured to skull with dental cement. This device was used consecutively for 2 yr for recording the unit activity and evoked potentials from different areas of hypothalamus and limbic system.
