Evoked visual potentials of the cortex and reticular formation of rabbit midbrain were studied in normal controls and during development of herpetic encephalitis. The data was analyzed by the method of automatic regulation theory which was used to determine the regulation quality in receptor-brain system. In the acute period of experimental encephalitis, deterioration of the quality takes place, combined with a decline in the reactive properties of the CNS and a disturbance of cerebral homeostasis.
