Sterilization of women via suprapublic minilaparotomy

55 women, 18-44 years of age, underwent sterilization by suprapubic minilaparotomy. 80% of the patients had 2-3 children, 38% had undergone induced abortion. A probe was used to retrovert the uterus as near to the abdominal wall as possible. A 3 cm long incision was made 2 cm above the pubic symphysis. 2 cm of the Fallopian tubes were resected, and the ends were sutured with catgut. 93% of the patients were discharged within 3 days after the operation. There were no complications to the operation.
