The immediate and late results of ventriculocysternostomy performed in children with occlusive hydrocephalus of an inflammatory (67), neoplastic (183) and parasitic (1) genesis are presented. The conducted analysis of the results has proved that the procedure dramatically improves the state of the patients. The mortality and long-term prognosis after the operation mainly depend on the severity of the underlying pathology. In occlusive hydrocephalus of an inflammatory genesis the operation usually results in recovery. In occlusive hydrocephalus due to a tumour the operation permits to prolong the patient's life for as much as over 5 years.
