A scheme of pregnancy management, which takes into account all pregnancies, including those termed high risk, is described. The main points of the scheme are assessment of fetal growth and placental function evaluation. Details are given for tests to evaluate these. Also included in the flow chart are assessment of fetal pulmonary maturity, intrapartum fetal heart rate and acid base balance. If a diagnosis for an insufficiency is reached, a decision is made for either spontaneous or operative delivery.
