Results of electroneuromyographic (ENMG) study of 64 patients with hypotonic hyperkinetic syndromes (chorea minor, Huntington's chorea, hyperkinetic form of juvenile cerebral paralysis and paroxysmal choreo-athetosis), 41 Parkinson's disease patients and 90 controls are presented. Patients were 3-70 yr old while the control group ranged from 2 mo. to 70 yr. Impulse flow speed through the peripheral nerve was reduced in Parkinson's disease, while speed increased during hypotonic hyperkinetic syndromes. Parameters of induced muscle response and potential nerve activity were established as were speed reduction in motor and sensory fibers of medium and large leg nerves. Asymmetry, motosensory and cranio-caudal coefficients were calculated. ENMG study of extrapyramidal syndromes detected functional changes in nerve conductivity despite the lack of disorders of nerve morphology. Its use as a diagnostic medium and to control therapy effectiveness was suggested.
