Toxoplasmosis of lymph nodes in 47 patients is described. 72% were females and 70% were aged 11 to 30 years. The disease was localized in the cervical lymph nodes in 66%; the inguinal and axillary nodes were involved in the other patients. The diagnosis was based on clinical and serological grounds. Inoculation of material from 19 cases into mice showed infections in 7. The acute phase of the disease was characterized by fever, lymphadenopathy and rising blood antibody titres. The subsequent course of the infection was variable; some patients became asymptomatic, others had lymph node enlargement and recurrent fevers. In 2 pregnant women who had acute infections, one had a stillbirth and one a baby who died in 2 months from congenital toxoplasmosis. 35 family contacts of 18 cases were examined and 31 were serologically positive. 38 of the patients were treated with pyrimethamine and sulpha drugs; 18 of these patients showed some intolerance.
