In Jaroslaw [Poland], 427 patients were treated surgically because of acute duodenal ulcer complications. In the 1st period (1953-1965) ulcer perforations were either simply sutured or the stomach was partly resected. In the years 1966-1972, the excision of the ulcer with pyloroplasty or the excision of the ulcer with pyloroplasty and dissection of the vagus trunk were also introduced into the treatment of acute complications. By applying this type of treatment in 71.70% of cases very good-good results were obtained in comparison with 41.45% of very good-good results when other methods of treatment were used.
