Optimal conditions for assaying individual 17-ketosteroids (17-KS) and 17-KS fractional composition in rabbits and dogs by TLC are described for possible comparative evaluation of the effect of prostate gland dysfunction on androgenic activity. Insignificant quantities of 17-KS, 11-hydroxycorticosterone, etiocholanolone, androsterone and dehydroepiandrosterone were excreted. Of the total androgens excreted, 38-41% were testosterone metabolites. The animal species selected are suitable for studying endocrine disorders or other diseases related to steroidogenic dysfunction.
