The results of urine flow into the intestine after treatment of exstrophy of the bladder were studied in 51 patients in periods of 1-19 yr. Urine in the intestine caused impairment of electrolytes and changes in acid-base equilibrium of the blood. The deviation of urine into the intestine impaired the homeostasis and acid-base equilibrium when damage to the upper urinary tracts was present. The best results in correction of this developmental defect were achieved with the Mikhel'son-Ternovskii operation performed in the ages of 3-12 mo.
