A review is given of the progress of the Solomon Islands Malaria Eradication Programme during 1975 to 1976. In 1976 in the Central District (population 70 695) 27 992 blood slides were examined and 7.4% were positive; in the Western District (40 320) 26 715 slides were examined and 0.9% were positive; in Malaita (59 970) 23 926 slides were examined and 1.6% were positive; in the Eastern District (25 723) 10 548 slides were examined and 0.4% were positive. Foci of high endemicity persist in north Guadalcanal and require special methods of control. This review of malaria eradication measures (including the use of insecticides against mosquito vectors) in the Solomon Islands in 1975-76 includes a report that efforts continue to be successful in most of the islands, but overall progress is hindered by persistent foci in areas of high malaria endemicity in north Guadalcanal. Some changes in the operational methods are described, together with a report on supplementary measures in north Guadalcanal.
