The authors present their first experience in the construction of an anastomosis between the facial and hypoglassal nerves. This anastomosis was made in 3 patients; in one of them who had a lesion of n. facialis, the anastomosis was made 8 months following the time of the lesion, and the result was very good. In the other 2 patients the results were satisfactory, even though the procedure was carried out 9-10 years following the injury to this nerve. The authors stress the importance of the promptness of the operation, and the postoperative rehabilitation course.
