Nodular-cystic fat necrosis

A clinically characteristic and previously unrecognized form of localized s.c. fat necrosis is reported. The lesion consists of single or multiple small mobile s.c. nodules which feel like a BB that one can flip around within a cavity. There is occasionally a history of trauma and the lesions occur on the lower legs of males where trauma has been likely to occur and might have gone unrecognized, especially since a rather long interval may be involved in the evolution of fat necrosis. Incision and drainage of the cyst with removal of the loose bodies appear to be adequate treatment.
