Male rats were exposed for 2 wk to the action of boric acid. The structure of the spermatogenic epithelium was investigated at the electron microscopic and photo-optic levels. The cellular structure of the spermatogenic epithelium was studied in intact rats and disorders detected in the testes following the action of the chemical agent were analyzed. A variety of dystrophic processes in the cells (chromatolysis of the nuclei, intensive vacuolization of the cytoplasm, consolidation of the mitochondrial matrix, etc.) were revealed. The appearance of multinuclear cells was noted. The morphological data obtained at the submicroscopic level suggest that the causative factor of these disorders appears to be a direct effect of boric acid on the processes of tissue respiration and meiotic division.
