The role of psychosocial factors in the pathogenesis of human schizophrenia was evaluated. The importance that other factors (such as constitutional predisposition, biological, toxic or metabolic disorders) must be taken into account. The theory that the entire schizophrenic symptomatology should be regarded as a result of an attempt to transform the anxiety coming from the self-image into the anxiety coming from the external environment was considered. The most fundamental factors in the prevention and treatment of this disease in its initial stages were discussed. These early stages should be considered as the most favorable time in establishing the best remedies for recovery and social rehabilitation.
