The use of haemoperfusion in the elimination of absorbed drug mixtures in acute intoxications

The results of the successful application of extracorporeal hemoperfusion in the treatment of acute intoxications caused by drug mixture overdoses are described. The hemoperfusion column used was the Haemocol, containing activated charcoal as an adsorbent, coated with an acrylic hydrogel. In all cases high clearance values are achieved by this technique and it was proven that hemoperfusion is superior to forced diuresis. Most patients showed rapid improvement in the level of consciousness, and all recovered completely.
