The problem of low-temperature preservation of donor red blood cells with various cryoprotectorants (glycerin, polyvinylpyrrolidone and PEO-4000) on the therapeutic efficacy of thawed-washed erythrocytes in surgical (42) and therapeutic (26) patients was resented. In comparison with other agents 15% glycerin had a more pronounced cryoprotective action. The therapeutic efficacy of such a hemotransfusion medium was not significantly less than transfusions of freshly prepared erythrocytes.
