A study was made of the Zn contents in various organs and tissues and the activity of blood carbonic anhydrase in 283 rats with experimental rickets. There was a reduction of Zn content and activity of Zn-containing enzyme carbonic anhydrase in the whole blood, liver, muscles and kidneys during the period of the disease. Experimental rickets was characterized by marked disturbances of Zn metabolism, expressed in the interorganic distribution of Zn at the initial period of the disease and appearance of an endogenous deficiency with the progress of rickets.
