Debilitating syndrome in budgerigars

In a commercial aviary of budgerigars with general debility, 17 were found PM to be infected with Giardia, Candida, coccidia and staphylococci. Livers all contained small aggregations of acute inflammatory cells. Three of six other affected birds treated with metronidazole, and one of six treated with dimetridazole died and the survivors lost weight. No Giardia were seen in the intestines PM. Six treated with nystatin all gained weight and no Candida was found in the faeces.
