Examinations of fish performed in 1975 in the Bratsk water reservoir zone [USSR] near the dam revealed Diphyllobothrium latum larvae in 1 of 22 mature pike and D. dendriticum in 3 of 5 whitefish. These data as well as the results of helminthocoprological examination of the human population carried out by the Bratsk sanitary-epidemiological station in recent years indicate that in the Bratsk water reservoir zone favorable conditions exist for formation of local foci of diphyllobothriasis associated with D. latum and D. dendriticum. Further extensive studies as well as organization of measures for prevention of diphyllobothriases in this zone are necessary.
