Elastosis in breast carcinoma

Elastosis in 467 cases of breast carcinoma was critically analyzed. Incidence of periductal and perivascular elastosis was commonly encountered in scirrhous carcinoma. Elastosis in breast carcinoma is possibly due to inductive effects of neoplastic cells around the wall of duct and stroma. Perivascular elastosis preferentially occurs around veins. Elastosis in breast cancer has biological as well as prognostic implications. Prospective studies should be undertaken to prognosticate with other hormonal and biochemical parameters to assess the significance of the degree and distribution of elastosis in breast carcinoma.
