The surgical treatment of pulmonary aspergillomas

During a 4-yr period, 11 patients underwent 12 operations for pulmonary aspergillomas; of these, 4 had positive Aspergillus serum precipitin titres and 3 had A. fumigatus isolated from sputum. The usual reason for operation was haemoptysis, massive or moderate. One patient died after operation and there were 2 complications. One patient has since had an aspergilloma on the opposite side and has recurrent haemoptysis.
