Resorption of labeled streptomycin administered intrapleurally [i.pl.] to rats indicated that this route of administration can be used clinically. Streptomycin, administered i.pl., contrary to i.m. administration, was distributed evenly among visceral organs (kidney, liver, spleen and lungs). Inductometric currents increased streptomycin resorption with maximum resorption observed with a 280 mA current and a 10 min exposure. A 280 mA current has been known to affect liver function, gastrointestinal absorption and peritoneal permeability; this should be considered in the clinical use of streptomycin with a 280 mA current.
