To compare changes in the cardiovascular systems of humans and animals subjected to the same influence, norepinephrine was administered to 15 healthy men and 18 cats. Mean arterial pressure was increased 53.8% in men and 23.6% in cats. Indices of pulse rate, stroke volume, minute volume and peripheral resistance revealed a qualitative similarity in both groups and may indicate similarities of mechanisms of hemodynamic change. An increase in systemic arterial pressure was produced by constriction of the resistive vessels of the greater circle during decrease in minute volume without substantive change in venous return. This may indicate deposit of blood in the lesser circle at the height of the reaction.
