In November 1975, 4 animals in a flock of 180 Texel sheep in the German Federal Republic were found to be infested with Demodex ovis Raill. The symptoms of the attack are described. The entire herd was washed twice with a 0.2% chlorhexol solution, with an interval of 14 days between treatments. A second outbreak was observed in June 1976, in a flock of 350 Texel sheep; this showed clinical symptoms and a tendency to spread. Tests of contact insecticides for control of the mite were undertaken.
