2 cases of serious complications of IUD use are reported. Perforations of the uterus and small intestine caused by an IUD were observed by laparoscopy in a 50-year-old woman. A progressive pelvic infection was observed in a 41-year-old woman after 1 year of IUD use. IUD use and abortions have increased. This is due to a decrease in oral contraceptive use caused by fear of side effects of oral contraception. IUD use can also cause serious side effects.
