The causes, sources and geographic distribution of diphyllobothriasis and other helminthiases in the USSR are outlined. Control of existing foci and prevention of spread to new territories, environmental protection from fecal contamination, decontamination of commercially caught fish (mainly pike, turbot and perch) and education of the population in heminthiasis prophylaxis are long-term projects for 1976-1980.
