An extremely high concentration of Zn in the plasma (hyperzincemia) was found in 5 of 7 members of 1 family and in 2 of 3 2nd-generation individuals, an indication that the condition is heritable. The excess zinc in the plasma appears to be bound to serum proteins, with no apparent clinical symptoms or abnormalities.
