In 7 adult cats stimulation from electrodes bilaterally implanted in the lateral hypothalamus produced a feeding response whether or not the animals had just previously eaten. Gastric fistulae were made through which gastric contents were collected for the measurement of acid secretion. There was no significant difference between control and stimulation sessions in 6 cats, and in the 7th there was a significant decrease in the secretion of acid during stimulation sessions.
