Effect of disopyramide on the sino-atrial node

Low doses (10-100 .mu.g/ml) of disopyramide injected directly in the artery of the sinus node in dogs increased sinus frequency and did not prevent auricular fibrillation caused by injection of 10 .mu.g/ml of acetylcholine in the same artery; doses above 100 .mu.g/ml decreased frequency and prevented fibrillation. Since the direct effect on the sinus node function prevented arrhythmia, disopyramide should be used with caution in arrhythmia with a disturbed sinus node.
