Results showed that the Zn content of normal skin scales was about half that of dandruff scales. However, there was no change in the viability of P. ovale grown on Zn-free medium and on one containing 100 parts/10 deg of Zn. Colchicine inhibited the growth of the pathogen and consequently any antidandruff properties must be due to its antimitotic properties. It was concluded that insufficient information was gathered to decide whether increased cell division in dandruff is a consequence of a sequel to increased enzyme activity.
